LANGDON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Even though the Oakes Tornadoes season didn’t end the way they desired, there’s still plenty to celebrate. The Tornadoes beat two top five teams (Bowman County & Thompson), won a playoff game and finished second in the region.
Oakes’ season crumbled on Saturday in a 50-13 loss at one seed Langdon Area/Edmore/Munich. From start to finish, Langdon controlled the game.
On the first drive of the game, Langdon converted a 4th and 7 around midfield and finished the 10 play drive off with a 24 yard touchdown pass from halfback Grant Rumfo to Jackson Delvo.
On Oakes’ first drive of the game, it ended on just the third play when quarterback Garret Meehl was intercepted. The interception led to a short field and another touchdown pass. This time it was quarterback Simon Rumfo to Grant Rumfo.
Each of the first three drives ended in interceptions for the Tornadoes and Langdon scored on their first seven drives of the game. The Rumfo brothers were a huge part of that. They combined for five touchdown passes and four rushing & receiving touchdowns.
The came to an abrupt end but head coach Greg Dobitz was very proud of his team and specifically his seniors. Dobitz referenced when these seniors were freshmen they didn’t win a single game but now they made it all the way to the quarterfinals of their senior season.
Oakes loses nine seniors: Zach Dethlefsen, Logan Sell, Brackin Awender, Alex Nelson, Dalton Nelson, Dakota Frye, Gabe Quandt, Jacob Bredeson and Hunter Greenmyer.
Oakes finished their season at 8-2. Langdon moves on to play region 1’s number one seed Lisbon next Saturday with a trip to the state title game on the line.
