BISMARCK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The North Dakota Game & Fish Department is looking to stay on top of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in the state this winter.

Chronic wasting disease is a fatal disease of deer, moose and elk that can cause long-term population declines if left unchecked. Recently, it was reported that CWD is only present in Grant, Sioux, Divide, Williams, and McKenzie counties.

North Dakota Game & Fish Wildlife Biologist Doug Leier says they rely on hunters to help with surveillance of CWD.

Leier says there are many other locations in the state to donate deer head. You can find that list here.

Leier also encouraged all duck and geese hunters to continue to be mindful of the roads.

You can listen to Doug Leier every Thursday at 7:35 AM with JD in the Morning on Big Dog Country 95.5 FM.
