ELLENDALE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – As water releases remain high from the Jamestown Reservoir & Pipestem Dam, those further south continue to see high water levels.
“The first big water should be here and we are in great shape,” Dickey County Emergency Manager Charlie Russell reports. “The water at the bridges and Highway 11 is close, but seems to be holding six to ten inches off of the road.”
Russell points out that bridges don’t usually go under water by design and approaches on the east side of all three areas. He expects water levels to fluctuate in the coming days.
“I think the game changer in the way the river is acting is the bridge west of Hecla, which is allowing a much greater flow south and the fact that we aren’t fighting all of the ice issues we have in the spring. Whatever the reason, I am truly thankful the river is acting the way it is.”
Russell encourages Dickey County residents to remain vigilant as things could change suddenly with flows or when ice begins to form.
