JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem is reminding residents to properly dispose of unused prescription and over-the-counter medications during National Prescription Drug “Take-Back” Day, Saturday October 26th.

Residents should go through their medications in their home and identify unneeded prescription drugs. Research shows that addictions oftentimes start with using drugs from medicine cabinets, says Robin Iszler of Central Valley Health in Jamestown.

Jamestown and surrounding areas have several year-round drug take-back locations. In Jamestown, residents can dispose of medications at the blue boxes in Thrifty White Drug pharmacies and the Medicine Shoppe. Medications can also be dropped off at the Law Enforcement Center in Jamestown in the orange box by the entrance.

Logan County residents can drop off medications at Napolean Drug in Napolean.

The take-back program began in North Dakota in 2009 as a pilot program, quickly growing and expanding collections to more than 12.3-tons of unused prescription drugs to date, according to the ND Attorney General’s office.
