OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – As they have so many times this season, Oakes (31-3) swept their opponent on Parent Night. Oakes defeated Napoleon-Gackle/Streeter (NGS) (6-15-4) 25-13, 25-5, 25-17 to finish the regular season.
The only thing that went wrong for Oakes was in the first set when they gave NGS 11 of their first 13 points on errors or misfires, but Oakes settled down and produced a scintillating night. Oakes won 25-13 in the first set thanks to a couple of really strong trips at the service line from Nicole Schmitz and Jaida Seyer. The two combined for six aces in the first set.
Game two may have been the largest win of the season for Oakes as they won 25-5. The final ten points of the game went to Oakes as they exploded to a 2-0 lead.
Set three was the closest on the scoreboard. NGS closed out the final set with a battle closing the deficit to seven at the end before losing by eight.
Oakes’ leading attacker was Nicole Schmitz with 15 kills while Emma Muggli, Shayla Novak, and Allison Jepson each recorded four kills. Seyer finished with a match high six aces.
The district tournament is next up for Oakes. It beings in Carrington on Halloween, but Oakes, with a first round bye, will play Friday night.
