JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Police & FIre Committee heard some devastating news from Jamestown Fire Chief Jim Reuther Thursday afternoon.
Earlier this year, it was reported that the ladder truck is currently at the fire hall, but is out of service indefinitely. Currently, around $200,000 is needed for repair costs.
Chief Reuther says the city’s fire insurance rates may go up without a ladder truck in service and adequate fire protection is not available without the truck.
Reuther says the department is now unable to provide adequate coverage for some buildings in Jamestown and the State Hospital, with underground tunnels in some areas.
City Councilmember Steve Brubakken stated that because of the lack of coverage for a state entity, they might be able to reach out to the state with a letter providing the information and need for a ladder truck replacement for the city of Jamestown.
The motion was approved unanimously.
