VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Some better news for Valley City. US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) spokesman Scott Tichy said inflows into Lake Ashtabulta have dropped off and aren’t expected to rise this week due to drier weather on the way.

He said inflows dropped off from 4,000 cfs to 3,800 cfs. The river level in Valley City was at 15.12 feet this morning. He’s optimistic that the lake levels will gradually drop off this week.

The outflows out of Baldhill dam will remain at about 3,300 cfs over the next two days.

Valley City Administrator David Schelkoph said they expect no major changes with their flood fighting effort this week. He said the city will prepare for a crest of 16 feet instead of the higher forecast issued earlier.

He had this reminder for city residents using sump pumps.

Schelkoph said people should not drive on the earthen levees or dikes in the city of Valley City being it would compromise the structures intended for flood protection.
