SIOUX CITY, Iowa (GPACSports.com) – Morningside totaled 98 points and is the preseason coaches’ selection to win the 2019-20 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Men’s Basketball Championship.  The Mustangs tallied nine first place votes. Dakota Wesleyan, with 91 points and the final two first place votes, is picked second.  Jamestown was third in the balloting with 78.

Morningside won the regular season championship last year in the GPAC, with Jamestown claiming the tournament title.  The Mustangs went 29-4 last season, while the Jimmies were 29-6.

In all, four teams (Morningside, Jamestown, Briar Cliff and Dakota Wesleyan) qualified for the NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball National Championship Tournament in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the Pentagon.  Morningside and Briar Cliff played in the Elite Eight this past March in Sioux Falls.

Points were awarded on a 10-1 basis and coaches’ could not vote for their own team.

Concordia totaled 121 points in the preseason coaches’ poll and is picked to win the 2019-20 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women’s Basketball Championship.  The Bulldogs tallied all eleven (11) possible first place votes while Dordt was picked second with 107 points and the final first place vote.  Dakota Wesleyan was tabbed third with 105 points in the balloting.

Last year Concordia won the regular season and tournament titles in the GPAC.  The Bulldogs went on to win the 2019 NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball National Championship and finished with a record of 35-3.

Six GPAC teams played in the 2019 NAIA Division II National Tournament as Concordia was joined by Dakota Wesleyan, Northwestern, Dordt, Hastings, and Morningside in Sioux City, Iowa, at the Tyson Events Center last March.

Points were awarded on an 11-1 basis and coaches’ could not vote for their own team.
