JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Students and Athletes from the University of Jamestown jumped to action Wednesday to help fill sandbags for potential flooding in the area.

An email went out to the UJ campus Wednesday morning seeking volunteers. Individual students, athletic teams, faculty, and staff assisted the community with filling the sandbags. Over 120 volunteers worked Wednesday, including members of the UJ football, volleyball, baseball, and track & field teams assisted for much of the afternoon.

Braxton Hewitt of Carrington plays for the UJ baseball team and says not only was it a way to give back, it also provided more team connections.

The city is continuing to seek volunteers as they plan on filling upwards of 50,000 bags, says Jamestown Forrester Erik Laber. The city plans on continuing filling bags Thursday from 8am to 6pm. The city plans on working on filling bags for the next few days.
