VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Typically Monday night’s are exclusive to the NFL but not last night. The Oakes Tornadoes defeated the Northern Cass Jaguars 38-8 Monday night at Shelly Ellig Field in Valley City.

The game was moved to Valley City State University due to poor field conditions from the snow at Northern Cass.

Oakes came out of the gates storming last night. On its first drive, Oakes scored on just three plays. It was capped off by a 40 yard touchdown pass from backup QB Xavier Vossler to starting QB Garret Meehl. The extra point was missed but Oakes took an early 6-0 lead and would score on their next two drives as well.

The Oakes defense complimented the offense well as it posted back-to-back three and outs to begin the game, too.

Meehl, in his regular role at quarterback, added a rushing touchdown to go up 12-0. Logan Sell added his 14th rushing touchdown of the year and Marc Seyer tacked on a score from one yard out. It was a dominant first half and Oakes led 25-0.

On the first play of the second half, Joey Heim would intercept a wobbly pass and take it in for 6. Later in the half, with most of the reserves in, Oakes’ defense caused a fumble and Alex Roney ran it in for the exclamation point as Oakes improved to 6-1.

Oakes closes the regular season this Saturday afternoon at Cummings Field. The game can be heard on KDDR “The Tornado” beginning at 1:45 with a pregame show.
