VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City State fell to Presentation College in four hard-fought sets 29-27, 24-26, 25-15, 25-23.
The first set featured 12 ties as the two NSAA teams battled back and forth for the lead. Tied at 12, neither team would lead by more than two points the rest of the way as Presentation took set one 29-27.
After taking the first set, Presentation continued their momentum into set two by starting out with an 11-4 lead. They held the lead until match point at 24-18 when an attack error gave Valley City State the chance to strike back. A 7-0 rally including two Reagan Ingstad service aces gave the Vikings set two 26-24.
The Vikings couldn’t hang on to their momentum in set three, hitting negatively as a team. After a tie at 4, the Saints took an 8-0 run for a lead they would never give up as they secured the set 25-15.
Valley City State would not go down without a fight as they took an early 7-1 lead in set four. Presentation answered back to take a lead as large as four points at 18-14 but the Vikings weren’t finished yet. A Makayla Wetzel kill brought up a tie game at 23, but the Vikings couldn’t hold on as a service error and Saints’ Alyssa Haberer kill gave Presentation set four, 25-23.
Four Vikings tallied double-digit digs on Saturday as Kallene Klever recorded 22, Kylie Erickson tallied 15, Reagan Ingstad recorded 13, and Alexa Walby added 11. Ingstad also recorded 24 assists and three service aces while Walby added 15 assists.
At the net, Valley City State was led by Bailey Nelson who recorded 15 kills and two blocks for the Vikings. Makayla Wetzel added 11 kills and four blocks.
Presentation was led by Kayla Wolfe who recorded 14 kills and four blocks for the Saints. Annie Jorgenson added seven kills and four aces.
Laura Babcock tallied a team-high 25 digs for the Saints. Senior setter Brooke Swanson added 16 digs and recorded 41 assists.
Presentation College improves to 9-10 overall and 3-3 in the NSAA. Valley City State falls to 4-12 overall and 0-6 in the NSAA.
