CARRINGTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Every 9 seconds, a woman in the U.S. is beaten or assaulted by a current or ex-significant other.

1 in 4 men are victims of some form of physical violence by an intimate partner as well. The U.S. Department of Justice estimates that 1.3 million women and 835,000 men are victims of physical violence by a partner every year.

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Nicole Threadgold of CHI St. Alexius Health in Carrington.

While those statistics include the entire nation, Threadgold says the statistics for North Dakota are just as staggering.

Threadgold also pointed out that Domestic Violence can also be considered a major health issue according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC).

Threadgold says there is help locally, citing the North Dakota Violence Prevention program.

Threadgold shared that staff will be wearing purple and pins to show support of domestic violence survivors and more.
