COLFAX, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Richland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a two-vehicle crash involving a North Dakota Highway Patrol Vehicle Saturday.
The incident happened about 1 1/2 miles south of Colfax at around 6:30 PM in a construction zone along I-29. The trooper was attempting to make a traffic stop in the construction zone. The patrol was traveling southbound when he activated his emergency lights and attempted to make a u-tern to stop a northbound motorist.
While conducting the u-turn, the patrol vehicle was struck on the right side by a northbound 2003 GMC Yukon. After the collision, the patrol vehicle entered the median and the Yukon became disabled in the northbound lane.
Both occupants of the Yukon were transported to Sanford Hospital in Fargo, treated and released. The trooper was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge where he was treated and released.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.
