BOTTINEAU, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Senior QB Seth Nelson ran for three touchdowns and passed for another two touchdowns as the Cardinals of Carrington defeat the Braves of Bottineau 42-8 on Friday night. Carrington improves to 2-2 in Region 2 and 2-4 overall, Bottineau drops to 0-4 in the region and 0-6 overall.
The Cardinals scored the first two touchdowns of the contest. They drove 65 yards on the opening drive for the first score of the game, Nelson connected with Junior Ethan Buskness for an 8-yard catch-and-run touchdown with about seven minutes remaining in the first quarter. Later, Buskness would complete a 70-yard drive with a 3-yard run into the end zone. The Braves would get on the board with :22 seconds remaining in the first quarter, QB Nate Olson passed to Adam Lorenz for a 27-yard catch-and-run TD, making the score 12-8. The Cardinals would score the next four touchdowns of the game. Nelson would run in three more touchdowns and pass for another in the third quarter. The Cardinals scored on their first five offensive series of the game. Nelson completed 6 of 11 passes for 91 yards and two touchdowns and one interception. He carried the ball eight times for 50 yards and three touchdowns. Sophomore Michael Clifton carried the ball 16 times for 126 yards. For the Braves, Olson was 5 of 18 passing for 91 yards, one TD and one interception.
