OAKES, N.D. (Newsdakota.com) – After losing their first match of the season over the weekend, Oakes responded with a 3-0 (25-10, 25-19, 25-10) sweep of the Ellendale Cardinals Tuesday night.

Oakes featured a new lineup tonight. The change comes on the heels of setter Sadie Hansen spraining her ankle over the weekend. Abby Cox started in place of the injured Hansen.

The first set went relatively smooth as Oakes cruised to 25-10 win. Shayla Novak, who was declared Homecoming Queen a night ago, opened up the first set with four kills.

The second set was the best chance for Ellendale to take a game. The Cardinals had a 4 point lead over midway through the set thanks to some sloppy Oakes play as well as a solid performance from Morgan Fischer who had at least three blocks for points that set. It took an Oakes run towards the end to pull away. Aubrei Steiner went on a five point run at the line, and Oakes would survive 25-19.

Ellendale ran out of steam headed into the third set after battling in set number two. Similar to the first set, Oakes ran away with it and won by the same score of 25-10.

Nicole Schmitz finished her night with 15 kills, Novak had nine kills, Jaida Seyer had two kills and two aces while Abby Cox finished with four aces.

Next time out for Oakes is this Thursday at Ashley against South Border.
