CARRINGTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Sophomore Michael Clifton ran the ball 25 times for a 134 yards and three touchdowns to help the Cardinals of Carrington secure their first victory of the year, 44-34 over the Sioux of Westhope/Newburg/Glenburn on Monday afternoon. Carrington improves to 1-2 in Class A Region 2 and 1-4 overall, WNG drops to 2-1 in the region and 2-2 overall.

The game continued on Monday afternoon after poor weather conditions on Friday night, September 20th in Carrington suspended the game in the second quarter. There were several lightning delays on Friday night, and then the game was eventually suspended when a strong thunderstorm rolled through. The City of Carrington received roughly four and half inches from the system, some areas to the west, in Wells County, reported almost eight inches. Things started up in the second quarter on Monday with 10:40 remaining and Carrington leading 14-6.

The Cardinals led the entire game, WNG came within eight at the end of the third quarter, but on the ensuing kickoff, Junior Matthew Thomas had a 75-yard kickoff return for the touchdown making the score 36-20. Senior QB for the Sioux Jackson Tofteland completed 17 of 32 passes for 322 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions.

Next up for Carrington will be another Region 2 matchup at Bottineau on Friday night, KDAK will have the pregame about 645pm, kickoff at 7pm.
