CARRINGTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Carrington Cardinals volleyball team won the 2019 Valley City Optimist Volleyball tournament at Valley City High School this past Saturday by defeating the Loboes of Lamoure/Litchville/Marion 2-1 in the championship match (25-20, 18-25, 15-13).

A total of 24 teams participated, Carrington was 5-1 in sets in pool play in the morning, dropping one set to May/Port/CG. They were the number one seed out of pool F and played Dickinson Trinity in the quarters and won 2-0. In the semifinals, they beat Oakes 2-0. Out of the four teams in the semifinals, three were from District 5, Region 3, Oakes, Carrington and Lamoure/LM. LLM beat Northern Cass to advance to the championship match with Carrington. Oakes beat Northern Cass for third. The last time Carrington won the championship at the Optimist tourney was 2016 when they beat Central Cass.

Now the Cardinals will travel to Lamoure to take on fellow District 5 foe, the Loboes of Lamoure/Litchville/Marion on Tuesday night in a rematch of the championship match on Saturday. KDAK will have the contest starting about 645pm live from Lamoure. The Cardinals are 12-0, LLM is 12-5.
