JAMESTOWN, N.D. (JimmieAthletics.com) – Dordt (Iowa) University racked up 468 of its 534 total yards on the ground Saturday afternoon, handing the University of Jamestown football team a 41-16 defeat at Taylor Stadium.
Levi Schoonhoven carried 35 times for 298 yards and a touchdown, one of five rushing scores for the Defenders.
The Jimmies took the opening kickoff and covered 63 yards in nine plays, getting a 27-yard field goal by Sean Fenelon (SO/West Fargo, N.D.) for an early 3-0 lead.
Dordt went 70 yards on nine plays on the enusing drive, capped off by Levi Niesen’s four-yard touchdown run. The Defenders forced a three-and-out by the Jimmies, then found the end zone on an eight-play, 39 yard drive finished with a four-yard run by Tyler Reynolds to take a 14-3 lead.
Trailing 28-3 with 4:23 left the in the third quarter, the Jimmies found the end zone for the first time in the game on a one-yard quarterback keeper by Jordan Mann (SR/Bismarck, N.D.).
Reynolds’ second rushing touchdown of the game with 11:52 remaining made it 35-10 Dordt, but the Jimmie defense came up with a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Aaron Mack (FR/Jamestown, N.D.) forced a Reece Schnell fumble which was scooped up by Troy Stuard (SR/Daingerfield, Texas), who took it 28 yards to the end zone.
Schnell would atone for his fumble with a one-yard score at the 3:45 mark to round out the game’s scoring.
Allen Jevning (JR/Brainerd, Minn.) led Jamestown with 107 yards rushing on eight carries, including a long of 58. Jimmy Hatch (SR/Sacramento, Calif.) gained 46 yards on four carries. Garrett Mitchell (SO/Shakopee, Minn.) caught three passes for 29 yards, the only Jimmie receiver to catch a pass in the game.
Ross Monson (JR/Jamestown, N.D.) had a career-high 18 tackles, including nine solo. Darrick Jones (JR/Compton, Calif.) and Brooks Canfield (SO/Tempe, Ariz.) each registered 10 tackles for Jamestown.
UJ (0-4, 0-2 Great Plains Athletic Conference) is at Northwestern (Iowa) 1:00 p.m. next Saturday.
