FERGUS FALLS, MINN. – Tanner Schnathorst and Hayley Shanks both won medalist honors Saturday as the VCSU golf teams swept the hardware at the small M-State Spartan Invite.

Schnathorst made four birdies as he fired an even-par 72 to win the men’s individual title, which also propelled the Vikings to a one-shot victory in the team race. VCSU’s men fired a 306 total, narrowly edging host Minnesota-State Fergus Falls by one stroke.

The event featured just the two schools after two other teams dropped out late last week. The teams played 18 holes at Pebble Lake Golf Course in Fergus Falls, Minn.

VCSU’s women also finished with their best team score of the season, shooting a 352 to take first place and improve by 15 shots over the season opener on Sept. 4.
