Valley City State senior kicker Landon Arredondo has been named the Dacotah Bank/North Star Athletic Association Football Special Teams Player of the Week, conference office announced Monday.

NSAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Landon Arredondo – Valley City State (N.D.) – 5’11” – 220 lbs., Senior – kicker – Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. – Arredondo went 8-for-8 on PAT extra-point kicks and 1-for-1 on field goal attempts in Valley City State’s (N.D.) 67-7 road rout at NCAA Division III Minnesota-Morris. His eight PAT extra-points ties VCSU’s single-game record. He hit a 25-yard field goal for the Vikings.  Arredondo also registered 11 kick-offs for a total of 521 yards and a 47-yard punt.

NSAA Football Offensive Player of the Week
Creighton Pfau – Mayville State (N.D.) – 6’4″ – 210 lbs., Junior – quarterback – Fargo, N.D. – Pfau completed 21 passes in 25 attempts for 319 yards as Mayville State (N.D.) cruised past Trinity Bible (N.D.) 67-0.  He threw for six touchdown passes.  Pfau also rushed five times in the game for 57 yards with a rushing touchdown.  For the game, Pfau accounted for seven total touchdowns (6 passing, 1 rushing) and 376 total offensive yards (319 yards passing, 57 yards rushing).

NSAA Football Defensive Player of the Week
Travyen Brownlee – Mayville State (N.D.) – 5’9″ – 165 lbs., Junior – defensive back – Miramar, Fla. – Brownlee tallied six tackles (2 solo, 4 assist) as Mayville State (N.D.) dominated Trinity Bible (N.D.) 67-0.  He also had 0.5 tackles-for-loss.  Brownlee had two pass break-ups and caught an interception for the Comets.

 

Recap from last week’s games
Mayville State (N.D.) earned its first win of the regular-season after dominating Trinity Bible (N.D.) 67-0 in the Farmers’ Bowl game (third edition of the Dacotah Bank/North Star Athletic Association Football Game-of-the-Week) on Sept. 14.  The Comets outgained the Lions 544-220 in the game.  MSU, who raced to a 54-0 halftime lead, lifted their overall record to 1-1.

Valley City State (N.D.) stormed to a 60-0 lead after three quarters and cruised past NCAA Division III Minnesota-Morris 67-7 on Sept. 14.  The Vikings piled up a total of 533 offensive yards and held the Cougars to 109 offensive yards.  VCSU is 2-1 overall record on the season.

Presentation (S.D.) fell to 0-3 overall record after losing a 41-13 road contest at NCAA Division III St. Scholastica (Minn.) on Sept. 14 in the battle of the ‘Saints.’  CSS held a slim 7-6 lead after the first quarter and outscored PC 27-0 in the second quarter for a 34-6 halftime lead.  St. Scholastica recorded 430 total offensive yards compared to Presentation 323 total offensive yards.

Dakota State (S.D.), Dickinson State (N.D.), and Waldorf (Iowa) were all idle last week.  Each team is currently 1-1 overall record.

Looking Ahead
The fourth edition of the Dacotah Bank/North Star Athletic Association Football Game of the Week takes place at the Trojan Field in Madison, S.D. on Saturday.  Dakota State (S.D.) hosts NCAA Division III Wisconsin-Stevens Point in the final non-conference game of the season.  Kick-off is set for 4 p.m. in the Trojans’ homecoming football game.

Mayville State (N.D.) travels on the road to Merrimack (Mass.) for a non-conference action on Saturday at 12 p.m.

No. 9-ranked Dickinson State (N.D.) returns to action on Saturday as they host NCAA Division III Wisconsin-La Crosse at 2 p.m. (Central Time)/1 p.m. (Mountain Time).

Waldorf (Iowa) also return home on Saturday as they host NCAA Division III Wisconsin-River Falls at 2 p.m.

Presentation (S.D.) and Valley City State (N.D.) are idle this week and will open the North Star conference action on Sept. 28 at home.
