LAMOURE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Oakes picked up three more sets to push their winning streak to 21 straight sets Thursday night as they defeated LaMoure-Litchville/Marion.
None of the sets was a cruise for Oakes, however. LLM hung around and gave Oakes all they could ask form. In set one, Oakes took it 25-20, but LLM kept scratching and clawing their way to staying in that opening set. Oakes would open up a larger lead down the stretch and take the opening set. Senior Nicole Schmitz opened up the match with seven kills.
Set two was the closest one of the night. Oakes hung on to win 25-22 despite both teams trading blows back and forth for a majority of the second set. The difference in the second set turned out to be a 6-0 run when Nicole Schmitz recorded four aces in a row. Leading the way for LLM in the second set were Ashlyn Rode with four kills and Ellie Holen with three kills.
Oakes got contribution from a variety of players in the 3rd set and took it by a score of 25-19. Shayla Novak recorded four kills and Abby Cox had two kills and the match winner.
Schmitz had 15 kills and seven aces on the match, while Cox recorded six kills and a pair of aces.
Oakes travels to Central Cass Saturday for the Volley in the Valley.
