BISMARCK, N.D (NewsDakota.com) – Drew Dosch threw four first half touchdown passes and Jaxson Wiseman caught two of the them and had an interception as #2 Bismarck St. Mary’s defeat Valley City 41-10 Friday night at Smrekar Field, Our Lady of Victory Stadium.
Dosch threw touchdown passespof 18, 63, 16, and 13 yards in the first half when the Saints jumped out to a 35-3 lead. Wiseman caught the 18 and 63 yarders on the first two possessions for the home team. Mark Horner caught a screen pass and took it in for the third score and Michael Salwei caught a 13 yarder late in the first half to give St. Mary’s a 35-3 lead with 22 seconds remaining.
But Mitchel Taylor returned the ensuing kickoff 69 yards to the Saints 19 yard line. With 3.3 seconds remaining, head coach Scott Roehrich decided to let Austyn Thornton attempt a 36 yard field goal. The decision paid off as the senior snuck it inside the right goal post to give the Hi-Liners some life heading into the locker room at halftime.
The Hi-Liners would score early in the fourth quarter with a 16 yard touchdown run by Max Fehr.
But Matt Scheer scored from 16 yards out late in the fourth quarter to finish the scoring.
Valley City falls to 0-2 on the season and are off until September 20th when the travel to Hazen. St. Mary’s improves to 1-1 and travel to #1 Hillsboro/Central Valley next week
