NORTHWOOD, N.D.- A complete performance gave Oakes a big 43-14 victory over the Hatton-Northwood Thunder Friday night.

The first three drives all resulted in the same thing: a Logan Sell touchdown rush. Sell capped off the drives with 11, 8 and 2 yard touchdown runs. Through the first two games, Sell has combined for 5 TD’s and over 200 yards on the ground.

Coach Greg Dobitz said Sell’s ability to break tackles allows imperfections from the rest of the offense.

“It allows us to not block every play perfectly. He’s very strong and worked his tail off in the weight room to get that way,” said Dobitz

While Sell was having a great day on the ground, the Oakes defense was putting pressure on the H-N offense all night. The Thunder had two plays of over 40 yards, but outside those of those anomalies, Oakes’ defense was terrorizing. Pressure on quarterback Avery Thorsgaard forced three interceptions. Brackin Awender came away with a tremendous sideline pick and Garret Meehl and Ashton Biesterfeld returned interceptions for TD’s.

Meehl also added a rushing TD from one yard out and added a 35 yard field goal.

The two blemishes against Oakes were big plays. An 80 yard TD run from H-N’s QB Thorsgaard and an 18 yard TD run from Parker Vaagene set up after a 60+ yard kick off return.

Early in the 4th quarter, Oakes pulled its starters and cruised to a running clock victory to begin region play.

Oakes returns home to take on the team that ended their season last year the Thompson Tommies. Game time is 7:00 with a pregame start at 6:45 on KDDR “The Tornado” and newsdakota.com.
