OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – In straight sets, the Oakes Tornadoes took care of the Lisbon Broncos to start the year 1-0.

Set one was a back and fourth affair that never saw a team go on a run of five points or more. The Tornadoes would close out the set and take it 25-20.

The second set saw some more separation thanks in large part to Oakes’ hitter Nicole Schmitz finding a groove. Schmitz would rack up 19 kills total to begin the year. The Tornadoes took set number two 25-18.

The third set saw even more separation than the second, as Oakes took care of business and won the final set 25-16.

After some service errors plagued the Tornadoes early on, three different Tornadoes would record three aces (Claire Wagner, Jaida Seyer, and Sadie Hansen). Wagner recorded 19 digs and Hansen led the team with 27 assists.

Next time out for the Tornadoes is next Thursday at LaMoure.
