DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Highway Patrol says a head-on crash in Devils Lake has killed a 79-year-old woman.

The patrol says the Devils Lake woman was driving the wrong way U.S. Highway 2 Friday night when her vehicle hit a car carrying a 23-year-old mother and her 13-day-old baby head-on.

A witness who observed the woman traveling westbound in the eastbound highway lanes immediately called 911.

Troopers say the woman drove the wrong way for at least a mile before striking the second vehicle.
The mother and her newborn child were transported by ambulance to a Devils Lake hospital. The mother was later flown to a Grand Forks hospital. The newborn child was released from the hospital to her father.
