JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown defense was flying all over the field Friday night and didn’t give up a point in a 7-0 win over Fargo North to open up the 2019 high school football season. Jamestown had four sacks and an interception to help stop the Spartans offense lead by back up QB Peyton Fischer.

The first quarter was scoreless and then early in the second quarter, the Jays cashed in on the games only scoring play. Tommy Falk hit Jacob Hilgemann on a 31-yard touchdown just three minutes into the quarter. It was a third and long play, but a perfectly lofted ball down the right side line was hauled in on Hilgemann’s fingertips.

The defense made the score stand up. Fargo North only took the ball inside Jamestown’s 30-yard line one time and never seemed like they were close to breaking through. Their best drive came early in the third quarter when a big run by Blayne Anderson pushed the Spartans into Blue Jay territory. The defense tightened up and quickly stifled the drive.

Hilgemann had Jamestown’s lone interception of Fischer on a floated pass deep down the field. Johnny Browning lead the team with two sacks. Matt Anderson and Daven Russell had the others.

Jamestown is back in action on Friday at Shanley. The Deacons opened their season with a 23-21 win over St. Mary’s.
