JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A Fargo man is facing a bunch of charges after leading local law enforcement on a high speed chase Thursday morning.

Jamestown Police report that at around 1:05 AM, they responded to a report of a gas drive off from the Interstate Tesoro gas station. The reported tan colored Chevy Impala with no license plates drove away without paying for fuel, leaving eastbound on 20th St. SW towards the Holiday Park Village.

At 1:30 AM, a Stutsman County Sheriff’s Deputy located the vehicle parked in a closed business parking lot a few blocks away from the gas station. There was an unknown male driver and female passenger. When confronted, the vehicle fled from officers at a high rate of speed.

The chase led police through residential areas in the southeast and southwest parts of Jamestown.

“The vehicle struck a fence in a residential backyard, which caused significant damage to the fence and the suspect vehicle,” the report states. “However, the vehicle remained operable and continued to flee from law enforcement, driving towards and nearly striking a Jamestown Police Squad car while exiting the backyard.”

The chase eventually led down Highway 281 out of Jamestown with speeds reaching in excess of 100 mph. At around 1:51 AM, the vehicle went off-road and became stuck after driving into a slough.

24 year-old Brett Meers of Fargo was arrested on suspicion of driving while license was suspended, Felony fleeing or attempting to elude a Peace Officer, Reckless Driving, Theft of Services, and a Felony Arrest Warrant out of Burleigh County.

Meers was taken to the Stutsman County Correctional Center to await formal charges.

Jamestown Police were assisted by the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office. The incident remains under investigation.
