JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Main Street Jamestown was lined with vendors, different businesses, organizations and more to welcome the new students to the community Wednesday night.

The annual Community Block Party has continued to grow yearly and as a result, the crowds and vendors with it. University of Jamestown President Dr. Polly Peterson led the new students at the University down the hill for their traditional march into the party. She described the feeling of descending from the University to downtown.

Peterson stated that the students were informed that this event was a way for them to get the full experience of Jamestown in one event.

The event was moved to Wednesday this year to allow residents, students, and players the chance to attend the block party. Freshmen students Paul Vandal of Jamestown and Jonah Lietz of Casselton were excited for the event.

Chamber Executive Director Emily Bivens stated that the event was also beneficial to area businesses in allowing them to showcase what they bring to Jamestown.

While it’s hard to say the actual number of people in attendance, Dean of Engagement and Student Affairs Dustin Jensen says they would put their estimates in the ballpark of around 4,000 or more.
