Thoughts:
Wow! What a great match to start the year. We knew we could be right in the match, but how it turned out was something else. We started off losing the first sets at #2 and #3 doubles. They both stormed back and blew them out in the third set 6-1 and 6-0 respectively. At #1 doubles, we fell down 5-2 and then came back to win 5 games in a row to win the first set. We then went up 3-0 in the second set before dropping that in a tiebreaker. In the third set, we were down 3-2 and then won 4 out of the last 5 games to sweep the doubles and go up 3-0 heading into singles.

After playing doubles for almost 3 hours…singles still needs to be played. Kai started up 4-1 when his opponent came back to beat him in straight sets. We also go down in straight sets at #2, #3, and #4 singles putting us in a 3-4 hole after being up 3-0.

Derek bear split sets in singles at #5. In the 3rd set, he was up 5-2 and his opponent came back to tie it at 5-5 and then 6-6 to go into the deciding tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker, Derek went down 3-5 before storming back and winning it 8-6 to tie us up at 4-4 in the overall match. At #1 singles, Blake had to take a medical timeout in the first set with some blurriness. Mr. Callahan, our trainer, was there to help and get him back on the court. Blake hit his stride to extend his winning streak to 6 matches dating back to last year.

This is the Hi-Liners first ever win over the Mustangs in boys tennis. Some craziness went on today. We only won 10 sets while the Mustangs won 12 sets, but yet we won 5-4. In matches that went three sets, we went 4-0.

We did a lot of things well today. Our teamwork and heart was excellent in doubles. Our effort, attitude, and sportsmanship were all very good. Our shot selection improved throughout the doubles. We have many improvements we need to make as well to include closing off the net and hitting short balls in rhythm. We will get there.

Great work today! The process is working; let’s continue it!
