JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – History will be brought to life during the 2019 Big Guns of the Old West demonstration at Fort Seward in Jamestown September 7th.
The annual event features different weapons that were used in the 1800’s when Fort Seward was an active fort. A big highlight of the day is the firing of a real Gatling gun and Howitzer cannon.
The day will also feature history chats on guns of the Indian War Era, children’s games, and living history exhibits. These will have butter making, dutch oven and soap making demonstrations and more.
“Come and see what life in the 1870’s was like for the men, women and children that called Fort Seward home.”
The event is free to the public, but donations made will benefit the Fort as they continue to grow their programs and upkeep the grounds.
“Donations are greatly appreciated. Bricks for the memorial walk, and star sponsorship forms will also be available for purchase. All funds raised will be used for future projects at Fort Seward.”
Events begin with a welcome at 10 AM, followed by the living history exhibits, silent auction at 12 PM, and the cannon and Gatling gun demonstration at 3 PM. There will be a pie auction to follow at 4 PM.
