VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The first annual River Fest was launched in Valley City and at Fort Ransom State Park on Saturday, August 3. The event focused on boating and learning more about the Sheyenne River.
Co-event coordinator Mary Lee Nielsen was confident that a new world record canoeing and kayaking launch was set with more than 100 registered boater combined at both locations including the U.S Fish Hatchery portage northwest of Valley City and further south at Fort Ransom State Park.
Several people told us the scenery along the Sheyenne River was fantastic as they were boating or enjoying a pontoon ride along the river.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and ND Game & Fish Department had booths set up in Chautauqua Park to educate the public about the Sheyenne River.
A number of people attended a River Walk while other’s enjoyed Frisbee golf on Saturday, August 3 in Valley City and at Fort Ransom State Park.
