CARRINGTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A trucker was injured following a collision between a semi and freight train Thursday afternoon.

The Foster County Sheriff’s Office reports that they responded at approximately 2:15 PM along the western county line on 60th Avenue near 7th St. N.

“The driver of the semi was transported to the Carrington ER for his injuries,” the office states. “Let this be a safety reminder for all to use extra caution at RR crossings.”

Wessly Overby, 46, of Sykeston was identifed by the North Dakota Highway Patrol as the driver of the semi. He has been charged with failure to yield the right of way at a railroad intersection.

“Overby stated he was traveling at an estimated speed of 35 mph and was not wearing his seatbelt,” the patrol stated. “The engineer estimated the train speed at 50 to 55 mph.”

The Foster County Sheriff’s Office also thanked volunteers in the community for their fast response.

Other departments who responded include the Carrington Fire Department and Carrington Ambulance.
