JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Public Works Committee made the motion to move forward with the agreement for the Safe Routes to School project in 2019-2020.

The agreement between Interstate Engineering, North Dakota Department of Transportation, Central Valley Health and Jamestown Public School District will create two middle school crossing bumps along 2nd Avenue Southeast and a recessed drop-off and pick-up lane with a corner bump out on 3rd Street SE.

City Engineer Travis Dillman reports that the $595,000 project will be covered with a grant from the NDDOT and the rest specially assessed to the Jamestown Public School District.

During the May JPS School Board Meeting, Superintendent Rob Lech stated that the plan would alleviate congestion at the middle school and support school walk-ability.

“We received the highest grant score as well as the only applicant to receive the maximum grant amount,” he stated in his report.

Work on the project could start by the summer of 2020.
