OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Two elimination games and two winner’s bracket games was the schedule for day 2 in Oakes on Wednesday.
Here’s the results from the slate of games:
Elimination Game: Enderlin 10, Ellendale 9
A bizarre and wild elimination game kicked off the 2nd day of the District 7 Tournament. Offense was not hard to find as right away Enderlin opened up the scoring in the first inning with a two run single off the bat of Colten Sorenson. The lead didn’t even last an inning as Ellendale struck in the 2nd with three runs. Dakota King and Easton Hagen recorded a couple run scoring singles to give Ellendale a 3-2 lead.
The one run lead inflated to a 7-2 lead in the 3rd when Hayden Podoll capped off the inning with a 2-run double.
Ellendale’s starter Max Waltman recorded zeroes from the 2nd through the 4th innings to maintain the five run cushion. Waltman allowed a couple runs to score in the 5th inning, but Ellendale would get those runs right back in the 6th inning and still lead by five going to the bottom of the 6th inning.
Not done yet, Enderlin would score four times and chase the starter Waltman from the game. Sorenson, Jade Pulkrabek and Austin Glarum would add RBI’s in the inning. It was a one-run game going to the 7th inning.
Colten Sorenson had four RBI’s on the day and five for the tournament entering the 7th inning. With the tying and winning runs on base, Colten Sorenson singled into right field bringing in the tying run. The throw from the outfield got away from the Ellendale catcher and it allowed the game-winning run to score.
Enderlin stays alive to play tomorrow in game two of the day tomorrow. Ellendale’s season comes to an end.
Elimination Game: Lisbon 5, Fargo Comets 2
For the second straight games, Lisbon jumped out to a two-run lead in the opening inning. A couple walks in the first frame lead to a sac fly from Simon Sveum and an RBI single from Sam Rieger.
But just like Tuesday night, Lisbon would surrender the lead early. The Comets put two on the scoreboard thanks to a pair of RBI singles from Carson Durr and Braydon Detling. Tied at two, the Comets handed the ball to Cole Hanson after Jacob Hamel pitched the first inning. Hanson was brilliant as he retired 12 straight at one point. Into the 5th inning, he recorded the first two outs and then walked back-to-back batters to put two on. Hanson didn’t get help from his field as he induced a ground out but it was booted by the shortstop that allowed a run to score. Lisbon would add two more on RBI singles from Sveum and Mason Lukes.
Lisbon was handed a complete game from their starter Jonah Welter. He allowed the two runs on eight hits while throwing over 100 pitches to pick up the win.
LaMoure 1, Oakes 9
In the 4th game of the night, Oakes turned in its second straight complete performance as Post 36 defeated LaMoure 9-1.
The Oakes starter Taylor Schall was dominant. He allowed an unearned run in the first and that was it. He recorded 10 straight outs from the 3rd through the 6th inning and surrendered just five scattered hits. Schall reached 105 pitches with two outs in the 7th and had to leave due to a pitch count rule.
Schall was backed by a relentless, robust lineup. 9 runs on 16 hits for the Oakes lineup and eight of the nine in the lineup recorded at least one hit. The offensive onslaught was headlined by Adam Neustel. In his return to the lineup, Neustel reached four times with a two-run double and the tournament’s first home run. Schall recorded three hits and an RBI, Conor Schall recorded two RBI singles and Tyler Voightman had an RBI double too.
LaMoure’s lone run was driven in by Mac Bierman who has three RBI’s in the tournament so far.
