VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – In two games versus the Fargo Astros this season, Valley City scored 14 runs. They did that, plus one, in a 15-0 win in the final game of the opening round of the East Division American Legion Baseball tournament at Charlie Brown Field Tuesday night.
Post 60 scored five in the second, six in the third and fourth in the fourth to back the four hit pitching of Mitchell Taylor.
Offensively, it was a team effort for Valley City. Eight different starters had hits, eight different players scored runs and eight different players drove in runs. Avery Bennefeld led the way going 3 for 4 with two runs scored and he drove in two with a single in the five run second. Connor May was 3 for 4 with two runs scored and an rbi double in the six run third. Alex Thornton was 2 for 4 with two runs scored and four rbi, two coming on a a single in the third.
Mitchell Taylor helped his cause going 2 for 3 with three rbi, two on a triple in the third. Jacob Johnson was 2 for 4 with two runs and an rbi.
Taylor did not walk a batter and struck out seven in five innings for the win.
