VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – About 60 people attended the Global Rocket Launch event in Valley City to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission to the moon at Medicine Wheel Park in Valley City on July 16th.

Local co-event coordinator Melissa Lloyd said about 30 people signed up to shoot off rockets and another 30 people came to observe the fun evening.

The Global Rocket Launch honored the Apollo 11 mission that carried Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins to the moon and back on July 16th 1969. The lunar module carrying Armstrong and Aldrin landed on the moon on July 20th marking the first time man landed and walked on the moon. The crew returned safely back to the Earth on July 23rd 1969.
