VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The future direction of the recycling center in Valley City is being discussed by city officials.
The owner of Valley Recycling Adam Faul gave a new business proposal to city officials two months ago after he told city commissioners that he had taken a heavy financial loss with the low price of recycling material.
City Administrator David Schelkoph said one proposal is to add a recycling fee to the city’s utility bill to help subsidize the cost of operating the center.
Another idea it to ask the county for help being rural Barnes County residents use the recycling center in Valley City.
City Commissioner Mike Bishop questioned the idea of subsidizing a company using tax payer dollars.
Again nothing has been finalized and all options are under discussion.
The city commission discussed the issue during their finance meeting on Tuesday, July 2. The item was tabled during their regular meeting. The recycling center will be discussed again during their next meeting on July 16th.
