ENDERLIN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Following two rain outs last week, Oakes Post 36 bounced back with a victory in game one of a doubleheader against Enderlin.

Game 1: Oakes 8, Enderlin 4

Oakes took home its 4th league victory of the year in a seesaw battle to open the doubleheader. Oakes jumped on top 2-0 after an RBI single from Taylor Schall in the 3rd and a bases loaded HBP taken by Coy Awender in the 4th.

Enderlin’s offense, quiet through three innings, heated up in the 4th by collecting five base hits and scoring four times. Garret Finger capped the inning off with a two-run single.

The lead did not last long as Oakes’ Adam Neustel crushed a two-run homer to tie the game once again. But the tie didn’t last long either. Enderlin took the lead against courtesy of a sporatic inning on the mound from starter Brady McKenna and reliever Taylor Schall. Both pitchers walked a pair of batters and Enderlin scored twice.

Even that lead didn’t last long. Oakes would get a run back on an RBI groundout from Awender in the 6th and take the lead on an RBI single from Alex Nelson that turned into three runs coming across courtesy of an error in the outfield. Oakes took an 8-6 lead and held on for the victory.

Game 2: Enderlin 5, Oakes 6

Oakes secured a second consecutive tightly contested ball game with a go-ahead single off the bat of Garret Meehl in the 6th inning. The two teams had been tied at five since the 5th inning

Jaidy Gebhardt tossed a complete game for Oakes en route to their second victory of the night. Gebhardt allowed five runs on five hits and notched eight strikeouts.

It’s a quick turnaround for Oakes as Post 36 will take on LaMoure Tuesday night at 7:00. The game can be heard on 1220AM, 95.9 FM “The Tornado.”
