VALLEY CITY,N.D. – (NewsDakota.com)- Valley City hosted the Fargo Astros for a pair of regional games Thursday night at Charlie Brown Field. Fargo took game one 4-3. Post #60 got the second game 11-4.
GAME 1 – Fargo 4, Valley City 3
Cooper Mattern’s two-out rbi single broke a 3-3 tie and lifted the Astros to the win.
Riley Gerhardt gave Valley City a 3-2 lead in the third with an rbi single scoring Jacob Johnson to break a 2-2 tie. Connor Drogan scored earlier in the inning on an error by Astro catcher Tyler Werremeyer.
Avery Bennefeld had two hits for Valley City.
GAME 2 – Valley City 11, Fargo 4
Avery Bennefeld’s bases loaded triple highlighted a five run fourth inning as Post 60 took game two 11-4.
Grady Karges had an rbi single one batter before to cut the Astros lead to 4-3. Jacob Johnson’s rbi ground out capped the inning.
Valley City would add two more in the fifth on Karges 2-run double. Easton Hesch had an rbi single in the sixth and Mitchell Taylor scored on an error for the final margin of victory.
Taylor had four hits and scored four runs for Post 60. Hesch had three hits, scored three times and drove in two. Bennefeld had two hits and drove in three.
Connor May got the win. He pitched two innings of relief, allowed two hits, one earned run with thee walks and five strikeouts.
Valley City is 2-2 overall and 2-1 in East Region games. They host Grafton Saturday at 2pm for a doubleheader.
