JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Stutsman County Director of Tax Equalization Tyler Perleberg informed the Stutsman County Commission Tuesday of a request for an order to local assessors to complete a re-appraisal.
Perleberg reports that for the past few years, he’s asked local assessors to give him up-to-date property records by performing a re-appraisal of the residential and commercial properties within the jurisdictions they are contracted with.
Perleberg says if the assessors do not complete the re-appraisals before October 31st, they would fulfill the obligations of the assessor’s requirements and perform the re-appraisal themselves.
North Dakota Century Code states individual property record must be kept by the appropriate assessment official for each parcel of taxable property. Assessors must prepare the records and provide copies of all property records prepared by the assessor to the county director of tax equalization.
Perleberg says there has been some moving around in local assessors across the county in different townships. Recently, they’ve assessed all but one of the townships in Stutsman County.
Perleberg says one assessor has not be fulfilling her duties correctly in one of the townships, but says if needed, his department would handle assessment duties for the township.
The commission unanimously approved of the request.
