JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Tuesday, May 21st for the new Jamestown Rural Fire Department (JRFD) station in the Southeast part of Jamestown.
The new station will be located at 1209 9th Street SE in the building previously occupied by CenturyLink. JRFD Fire Chief Brian Paulson started the event and recognized several individuals who have made the project possible.
JRFD District President Richard Klose stated that the start of this building signified the years of work beforehand that’s led them to this point.
Klose says they’re carrying on the legacy of what needs to be done.
Stutsman County Commissioner Mark Klose addressed the small crowd and thanked the volunteer firefighters for continuing the work they do for the rural parts of Jamestown.
Cost of the building and remodel is expected to cost upwards of $2.8 million. An addition is being built to the east to house the department’s equipment and vehicles. The funding will be coming from a USDA Loan from the Community Facilities Loan and Grant Program.
Clare Carlson, USDA State Director of North Dakota, stated that USDA is proud to be part of the JRFD fire station build.
Carlson tipped his hat to the local leadership, saying it takes that in order to make a project like this reality.
Chief Paulson says they’re eyeing a mid-December opening date for the new fire hall in Jamestown. Click here for more on the reason a new fire hall is being built for the JRFD.
