STUTSMAN COUNTY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge Manager Paul Halko says they’re working on bringing more pollinators to the refuge this summer.

Pollinators are the insects that bring about pollination and assist in over 80% of the world’s flowering plants. This includes bees, pollen wasps, ants, flies, butterflies, moths, flower beetles, and more.

Halko says habitat loss is causing the greatest loss of pollinators and more.

Halko says following labels on chemicals closely is important and knowing pests they’re trying to treat and that it’s at the level it needs to be treated.

He says spot treating is very important and that they’re taking steps at the refuge to assist the pollinators.

Halko says they’re also working on planting for pollinators, which he says anyone can do.

In other refuge news, Halko says they’ve been around since 1935 and welcome anyone to come out and view the area.
