HUNTER, N.D.  (NewsDakota.com) – Oakes bounced back after a long week with a doubleheader sweep of the Northern Cass Jaguars.

With the wins, Oakes is now 4-0 over Northern Cass and 7-8 overall on the season. Northern Cass is still winless.

Here’s how both games unfolded.

Game 1 Oakes 12, Northern Cass 0

Taylor Schall arguably gave the best outing of the year for an Oakes pitcher in game one of last night’s doubleheader. He tossed a six inning shutout with just one hit allowed and ten strikeouts. If it wasn’t obvious from the stats, Coach Greg Dobitz saw the same thing.

“Taylor Schall was lights out on the mound in game 1,” Dobitz said in an email.

The Oakes lineup was spectacular as well. Eight out of the nine hitters recorded an RBI in game one and Adam Neustel turned in a three RBI performance on two hits.

“Adam Neustel is hitting the cover off the ball right now and if he keeps that up we’ll be scoring more and more runs,” Dobitz added.

Game 2 Oakes 7, Northern Cass 6
In a much tighter contest, Oakes capped off the doubleheader with a one run victory. Northern Cass had one run leads after the first and third innings, but the Tornadoes lineup came alive to prevail in the five inning game. Oakes put up two in the 2nd, one in the 3rd, three in the fourth and one more in the 5th inning.

The pitching was solid again in game two between Brady McKenna and Steele Hansen.

“I also liked what I saw from Brady McKenna and Steele Hansen in game 2.  Brady has been working on somethings and we saw some good results last night,” said Dobitz.

McKenna and Hansen didn’t get a lot of help in the field as they allowed five unearned runs.

Hansen also added a pair of RBI’s at the plate.

Oakes’ next time out will be in the Enderlin/Maple Valley tournament this Friday.
