JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – 95 Jamestown High School 9th grade students graduated from the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program during a ceremony and exercise Thursday.

The event was an opportunity for students to demonstrate their skills in the event of a major incident. The exercise included a fire safety scenario and emergency medical situation. The course covered other incidents including medical triage, search and rescue, and terrorism. Students have been preparing for this event, says Assistant Stutsman County Emergency Manager Kim Franklin.

The training has provided a unique opportunity to prepare for a disaster.

JHS drama students acted as victims of an incident that resulted in multiple injuries. The victims decked in realistic makeup to depict serious injuries.

The exercise was overseen by local emergency response officials, including the Jamestown Area Ambulance and Fire Department.

Participating students received a certificate of completion.
