MOORHEAD, M.N. (NewsDakota.com) – Moorhead Police say 35 year old Blake Fitzgerald has been arrested on domestic assault charges and taken to the Clay County Jail. The incident is now over with no one getting hurt.
Update to standoff near Concordia… Moorhead Police on Facebook released a statement that they are using flash bang devices to get the suspects attention. Here is the text from the statement:
“The situation in the 1400 block of 5 St S is still on going. Flash sound diversionary devices were just used outside the residence in effort to get the suspect’s attention to spur him to answer the phone. If you are nearby and heard loud bangs, it IS NOT gun fire. This was released to local media as well.”
The Moorhead Police Department, Clay County Sheriff’s Office, MN State Patrol, along with other agencies are on the scene of a disturbance on 5 St S.
About 1 block SW of Concordia’s campus. Roads are blocked off on 4 St, 5 St, and 6 St S from 14 Ave through 18 Ave S.
According to a statement from the Director of Security and Public safety at Concordia Bill MacDonald, the person in question is contained in a home and is believed to have a weapon. According to law enforcement they are calling it domestic situation.
Red River Swat and a black armored police vehicle have been brought to the scene.
Moorhead Police Chief Shannon Monroe gave a statement to the media. He said that they were negotiating, for what they hope, is a peaceful surrender with the male suspect. He also said a Code Red alert was sent out to people living in that area to shelter in place.
