JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Hundreds gathered Friday evening to remember those lost due to cancer during the annual Stutsman County Relay for Life in Jamestown.

The event raises money for the American Cancer Society and the research to find a cure. Luminaries were lit around the track at the Larson Sport Center on the University of Jamestown campus to signify those who lost their lives to the deadly disease.

Judy Hager is on the event planning committee. As a survivor, she believes that this event is more than just a fundraiser.

Over $31,000 was raised from the event. Hager says more is expected to come in as teams continue to turn in additional funds, but this is the largest fundraiser for the organization.

11 teams participated in the event. Local cancer survivor MacKenzie Gerszewski was the keynote speaker and shared her experience with a rare form of cancer.
