JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – 95 Jamestown High School students will be participating in an exercise and graduation Thursday on emergency response preparedness.

The JHS’s Teen Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) organized a 6-week course on responding to disasters. Emergency scenarios included fire safety, terrorism, disaster psychology, and search and rescue. Students will demonstrate their skills to local emergency response personnel at the event Thursday.

Stutsman County Emergency Manager Jerry Bergquist states that since starting in 2010, more than 1,000 teens have gone through the unique program in the Jamestown Public School District. Students will receive a certificate of completion during the graduation ceremony.

Due to the size of the class, two ceremonies will take place at 9:01am to 10:21am and 10:24 am to 11:40 am. The event will be held at the Jamestown High School gymnasium.
