JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – There are many different types of severe weather that can strike at a moments notice in North Dakota.
But, with a little preparation and diligence, you can prepare and be ready in the event of a severe storm. Stutsman County Emergency Manager Jerry Bergquist says North Dakota can experience a multitude of weather events over the summer.
Bergquist says the week is a perfect chance to get the mindset switched from winter weather to summer weather preparedness.
Another thing residents should be mindful of is the difference between a watch and a warning. A watch means the potential for severe storms exists and conditions are favorable for severe weather. A warning requires more immediate action and should be taken seriously. It indicates severe weather is imminent in the area.
To help kickoff the week, the National Weather Service has scheduled a SKYWARN Weather Spotter Training Class in Jamestown tonight at 7 PM. Bergquist says approximately 2 hour class will focus on recognizing and understanding the different types of severe summer weather.
Attending this class does not require you to become an official National Weather Service weather spotter. For more information, contact the Stutsman County Emergency Manager’s Office at 701-252-9093.
This week is Severe Summer Weather Awareness week. Each day this week, NewsDakota will be highlighting a different aspect of summer weather and preparations being made for Stutsman County.
