JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Heavy snowfall in Jamestown caused damage to several buildings over the winter.
City Building Inspector Tom Blackmore reports that due to heavy snow, the roof at the city-owned building at 1100 Railroad Drive collapsed and caused extensive damage.
Blackmore says other issues are present at the structure include stormwater, with it flowing inside the building. He recommended that they would like to save a portion of the building and demolish the rest with the insurance money.
Another building damaged due to heavy snow was the Melland Building on Business Loop West. The heavy snow caused the canopy across a majority of the building to collapse. Blackmore says this forced them to condemn the middle portion.
Blackmore says he has talked to the building owner and they’ll be working on a solution to either have the structure repaired or demolished.
The last structure Blackmore worked with was at 1435 4th Avenue NW. He says they contacted him after heavy snow caused their single stall garage roof to collapse.
Councilmembers thanked Blackmore for his work on inspecting all the buildings and working with the owners to remedy the damage caused by heavy snow.
