VALLEY CITY, N.D. (Newsdakota.com) – The West Fargo Packers scored six runs in the first inning on the way to an 8-2 win in game two of a double header against Valley City Tuesday night at Tharaldson Field in East Region softball action.
The win earned the Packers a sweep in the twin bill. The game ws was called after five innings due to darkness.
Ashlyn Diemert had two hits and Sophie Ochocki drove in two runs for the Packers.
Hailey Schafer and Jessie Undem had two hits a piece for the Hi-Liners. Grace Scherr and Eliza Johnson had one each.
In game one, West Fargo scored three runs in the top of the eighth for a 7-4 win.
The Hi-Liners tied the game at 4 with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Erin Anderson led off the inning with a bunt single then came all the way around to score when Packer third baseman Ashlyn Diemert threw the ball down the right field line. Scherr walked, then with two out, Schafer doubled in Scherr. Two batters later, Undem singled in Schafer with the tying run.
Eliza Johnson, Eliza Schueneman and Erin Anderson all had two hits. Schafer, Undem and Emma Mielke each had one. Schafer scattered 11 hits in eight innings of work. She allowed four earned runs with three walks and 10 strikeouts.
The Hi-Liners are 2-4 in the Eastern Dakota Conference and 3-5 overall. They travel to Grand Forks Red River on Thursday for a 2-point EDC game. Saturday they will be in Morris for the Tiger Invite.
